Annointing – A sacrament of healing for anyone who is sick. Sometimes referred to as anointing of the sick or last rites.

Chapel – A place of ritual and prayer that is used by all denominations, individual staff members, religious groups, staff prayer meetings, and families of patients. The provision of sacred space for religious services for inpatient groups is one of the most important requirements for a medical chaplaincy program.

Chaplain – A chaplain is a more encompassing term for all (ordained and non-ordained) specially trained in Clinical Pastoral Education, theology, and all Pastoral Ministry for Pastoral Care.

Pastoral Care Assistants – A term reserved for those people who are certified for pastoral care visitation.

Patient Visitations – The staff of the Pastoral Care Department ministers to all patients regardless of their denominations.

Prayer Services – Services that offer inpatients of various denominational and non-denominational backgrounds an opportunity for individual and group prayer.

Spiritual Care – Care that meets the spiritual needs of patients, especially as it relates to their medical condition and individual theology.

Visiting Clergy – Visiting clergy of different religious denominations provide spiritual comfort at the medical center. All visiting clergy are requested to wear identity badges so they are clearly identified. It is the aim of the Pastoral Care Department to have all clergy clearly identified.
